Introduction:
The Upper and Lower Grassi Lakes lie at an elevation of about 1,525 m (5,003 ft) in the southern Canadian Rockies overlooking the town of Canmore, Alberta. They receive their water from the Spray Lakes Reservoir on the Spray River.
Hiking:
This is a popular hike and a very popular area for sport climbers. The trail leads to two small turquoise blue lakes. From the parking lot, follow the service road for the first 100 metres, then keep left on the well-defined hiking trail. The first kilometre is a gentle ascent through forest with a delightful assortment of wildflowers in bloom throughout the month of June.
Directions to trail:
In Canmore follow the directions to the Canmore Nordic Centre. You will end up driving down 8th Street turning left on 8th Avenue. The trailhead is 1 kilometer north (uphill) of the Nordic Centre turnoff on the left hand side of the road.
