Telc-UNESCO Heritage Town:

Telč  is a town in southern Moravia, near Jihlava, in the Czech Republic. The town was founded in the 13th century as a royal water fort on the crossroads of busy merchant routes between Bohemia, Moravia and Austria.
Besides the monumental 17th century Renaissance chateau with an English-style park (a rebuilding of original Gothic castle), the most significant sight is the town square, a unique complex of long urban plaza with well-conserved Renaissance and Baroque houses with high gables and arcades; since 1992 all of this has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Spa Towns in Bohemia:

With the Czech Republic offering your body and your mind so many temptations and attractions - drinking the best beer in the world in Plzen (Pilsen), walking and marveling at the sights of Prague, sampling delightful wines in sunny Moravia - it may be reassuring to know that there is also part of the country waiting for you where your mind can be at peace and your body can be pampered, detoxified and rejuvenated. It is the laid back Spa region of west Bohemia of which we are speaking where all you need do is stroll and relax, take the curative waters and enjoy a well-deserved massage. It was the volcanic activity no less in the misty history of the distant past to which the origin of the mineral springs can be traced. It took a long, long time for the sulfur tasting water to be appreciated but their value was greatly increased when none other than Charles IV insisted that the water seemed to be doing him a world of good. Little wonder Karlovy Vary or in german Karlsbad is named after him. Karlovy Vary may be the best known of the three principle Spa towns of Bohemia but the other two Marianske Lazne (Marienbad), and Frantiskove Lazne  are no less charming. In any case it would take until the early years of the 19th century that the spa towns began to prosper and it is also to this period that the glorious colonnades, pavilions, and neo-classical buildings may be traced. If it took some time to be realized that the spa waters of this region were amazingly curative, once they did note the benefit the nobility and hoi-polloi of Europe really couldn't arrive here fast enough or stay long enough. A veritable history book of famous names came by to test it for themselves and to see what it was all about. So, if you can then, follow in the footsteps of immortals like Goethe, and Twain, and Kafka from the world of literature, Wagner and Chopin the great composers, old foes Edward of England and Napoleon of France and even the father of psycho analogy Sigmund Freud and set foot in the beautiful and peaceful towns of the Czech Republic's spa region.
