Bora Bora is an island which belongs to the Leeward group of French Polynesian Society Island which is an overseas collectivity in the Pacific Ocean. This island is situated about 140 miles away in north-west direction of Papeete. The island is enclosed in by a barrier reef and a lagoon. At the central portion lie the island’s peaks and the remains of an extinct volcano containing two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu. The peak altitude is nearly 2385 feet.Bora Bora major source of income is from tourism industry and is mostly populated from tourists. It is famous for its aqua-centric extravagant hotels. At the west lies the primary settlement area known as Vaitape. The food mainly consists of marine fish and the coconut is abundant on the island. The permanent population of Bora Bora is nearly 9000.The island also acted as a base for a military base, as an airstrip, depot and a factory where defensive fortifications were produced during world war II. It is known as the Operation Bobcat. It used to have supply force of 9 large ships, 7000 men and 20,000 tons of equipment. There were 7 huge naval cannons placed at the strategic points around the bora bora island as a protection against any type of attack from the enemy.
